Building Awareness of the Hydrogen Option

Imagine...
a fuel you can make from water... a fuel that eliminates the need for dependence on foreign energy sources... a fuel that we can produce pretty much anywhere we need it, to do just about anything that requires energy. A zero emission fuel that doesn’t pollute the air... is non-toxic... and it’s safe to use! Sound to good to be true? It’s not. It’s called hydrogen...

See how Jules Verne’s science fiction is now science fact in Hydrogen: The Safe and Clean Fuel. Well-known actress Alexandra Paul (Baywatch, Melrose Place) introduces us to the new technologies that will enable us to meet our energy needs with a fuel that can be made from water. Aided by slick 3-D computer animations, she describes electrolysis and the hydrogen fuel cycle, where hydrogen is extracted from water, used as a fuel where it recombines with oxygen, again forming water.

She talks to the experts to show how a fuel cell car works and why hydrogen is such a good fuel. Filmed on location in the U.S., Canada, and Japan, we see hydrogen fueling stations around the world, including one that makes hydrogen from water and solar power. We find out how easy it is to fuel a car with hydrogen at a fueling station and even at home with a fuel appliance that hooks up to a garden hose. We see buildings worldwide generating their own electricity on-site with fuel cells. Throughout, the basic characteristics of hydrogen and hydrogen safety are explained.
